"I wanna be where the bands are..." The Stone Pony in 2000 913 Ocean Avenue |
|||
The Stone Pony is considered by many to be one of the most famous rock clubs in the world. Opening in 1974, after Bruce Springsteen already had his record deal and was touring the US, it is not one of the clubs where he got his start. However, Bruce has played this venue more than any other in the world, but never in an announced performance. Living in a nearby community, he often dropped in and jumped up on stage with whoever might be playing that night. |
|
When the club's doors closed in the late 90s, part of the artwork from the bar was sent to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. It was very briefly a dance club called Vinyl before closing again. |

In
May of 2000, after extensive renovations to bring it back to its original
appearance, the Stone Pony is attracting rock fans back to the shore!
Inside is enough memoribilia to keep fans of the Jersey Shore Sound busy
for hours! |
