The Empress Bruce Springsteen picture sleeve for "Hungry Heart" |
|||
The Empress doesn't necessarily have a huge Bruce history, but for any fan who also owned the picture sleeve for "Hungry Heart," it was an immediately recognizable building. It's one of the first things you saw as you came into the beach front area of the city. The upper floor's eastside rooms gave not only a nice view of the ocean during the day, but at night it was a front row to the cars driving The Circuit below. It is currently being renovated and hopefully will find a new life. Do not remove or use these photos without permission. This is how the same spot looked in 1984. To the left is The Palace and the small red building was a visitor's center. The phone booth was replaced by a smaller pay phone. To the right of the ramp is a fortune teller. The Empress rises in the background. Ocean Avenue runs in front of the hotel. Click on the thumbnails below for larger pictures. Photos will open in a new browser window.
