THE LION OF ATLANTA
Memorial to the Unknown Confederate Dead

Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia

This incredible sculpture is based on the Swiss “The Lion of Lucerne.” It shows a mortally wounded lion, breathing its last as his head rests on the Confederate banner. The work is created to honor the unknown number of Confederate dead who are buried on the grounds around the statue.
