The Graveyard Shift
Grave of the Unknown Hero, Allatoona, Georgia There are several different stories behind this grave. The one I like to believe was printed in the Cartersville, Georgia newspaper in the 1940s. It states that this was a young Confederate soldier whose body arrived at the Allatoona depot from a Civil War battle. The wooden box said only "Allatoona." When no one recognized or claimed the body, several local women buried him beside the railroad tracks. One of those women was my great great grandmother. |
