The Graveyard Shift

Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, Georgia

"Was a brave little fireman,
attached to Defiance Fire Co. No. 5"

The story goes that the little boy dreamed of being a fireman. The local station (Defiance #5) adopted him as a mascot. When the child died, Station #5 erected this memorial. The stone shows a fireman's jacket, belt and hat.
Inscription: John B. Ross, son of W.A. and E.J. Juhan, Died July 26, 1875, Age 8 years, 4 months, 16 days, Was a brave little fireman, Attached to Defiance Fire Co., No 5.
